Help your team’s new writing skills stick with our toolkit for team leaders

Our library of bite-sized microlearning videos is designed to help people achieve better results through clearer writing. The format makes learning easy to fit in during the working day — whether ‘just in time’ or in a more sustained session.

People love the content and find it helpful in the workplace. But they’re busy, and it’s easy for their to-do lists and other priorities to take over. And even when they do watch a training video, the learning can fade if they don’t get a chance to put the specific points they’ve learnt into practice quickly.

Making learning stick is something we’ve been thinking about here at Write Online. To complement the content library, we wanted to find a way to make sure the learning doesn’t stop when the video ends.

Meet our new toolkit of Clarity Bites for team leaders

That’s where our toolkit for team leaders comes in. The toolkit is designed to extend your team’s learning from Write Online. The activities inside are quick ‘clarity bites’ to get your team thinking and working on their writing skills. We’ve prepped all the activities and answers to share, so they’re easy for you to use with your team.

The activities have been created by our experienced trainers, who are also Write Online learning specialists. So they understand elearning scenarios and know what works in live sessions too.

Our first couple of toolkits focuses on key collections: ‘The Ten Elements of Clear Writing’ and ‘The ABC of Email’. We’ll be releasing more Clarity Bites for other collections over the next few months.

Bite-sized learning that’s perfect for team meetings

Use Clarity Bites once or twice a month in your team meetings to add a quick focus on better writing. Watch one of the videos and do a short Clarity Bite to make the learning stick, in your context.

Each Clarity Bite includes two or three activities you can choose from. Even regularly watching a microlearning video together as a team will help to lift writing quality over time.

Clarity Bites will get your team:

  • thinking about and practising the plain language concepts from each video
  • discussing how the concepts might work in your context
  • sharing experiences and ideas to put into practice.

Why practice makes the difference

When your team gets the chance to practise the skills they’ve learnt about, they’re more likely to:

  • apply concepts directly to their own writing, rather than just understanding them in theory
  • build confidence and habits that make clear writing second nature over time
  • share ideas, discuss, and learn from each other, creating a culture where good writing is a hot topic across the team.
